Eat the Street is thrilled to announce that we will be partnering once again with Republic of Coffee and Benchtop Espresso to deliver the 2018 Latte Art Smackdown in sponsorship with $1,300 up for grabs!
The Smackdown is run in a knockout format, with competitors competing in pairs. In a specified time limit, each competitor textures their own milk. They have only one attempt to pour their designated design. The drink is then presented to a panel of judges who pick their favourite design. The winner advances until only one barista remains. First place: $1000; Second place: $300
Competition Rules
This is a Knock-out format competition!
Competitors must be present 15mins in advance of competition time.
All competitors to use sponsor’s coffee Republic of Coffee.
The winner of each round will progress to the next round or in the case of the final round, be declared the overall winner of the competition.
Each pair of competitors will go head to head on the machine.
Handles will be loaded for you to avoid competitors crossing each other.
Shots will need to be poured into a 6oz T/A cup.
Each competitor has 1 attempt only, each competitor will be required to reproduce the latte art pattern randomly selected by the roll of the dice – which will be one of the following: Heart, Rosetta, Tulip, Swan, Hanging Heart or Free Pour.
You can bring your own jug or use supplied jug.
Barista to place completed cup in front of judges.
Three judges will vote by placing poker chip next to cup they deem the winner, taste will not be assessed.
Judges will be looking for definition, symmetry and impressive designs.
The Barista that gets the most votes goes through to the next round with the other being knocked out.
All judge’s decisions are final & no correspondence will be entered into.
